The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
Heading into the USMTS finale and Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway this weekend, Johnny Scott once again shows the way on the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. This marks the 13th overall week 'J' Scott has held the top spot and ninth week in 2018.
Like many of his fellow USMTS competitors, Johnny took a weekend off to prepare for the $10,000-to-win Fall Jamboree in Spring Valley, Minnesota, as he looks to cap off an incredible season in which he already owns the overall USMTS championship crown.
Then there's Rodney Sanders, who took a different approach to the weekend and swooped into Kansas City to claim the night one Tom Karrick Memorial Scramble before going on to finish the weekend with a sweep by claiming the victory in the $5,000-to-win Jayhawk Modified Shootout. His fellow competitors should take notice as Rodney is notorious for rolling into big-money events with a head of steam and dominating, in a few days we'll see how that pans out.
Moving back into the top three this week is Darron Fuqua, the perennial USRA Champion. Fuqua looked strong all weekend long and led the Tom Karrick Lakeside race early on before being overtaken by Sanders for the win. He was a lock in for second to Sanders on night two until a mid-race flat tire slowed his momentum, but only for a moment as his crew worked swiftly under caution to get him back into the mix where he moved from 18th 4th at the finish!
Rounding out the top five this week are Lucas Schott and Stormy Scott. Both of these gentlemen are threats to take home some serious cash and hardware at the 'Creek this weekend. Lucas will look to grab some home-state headlines once again during an incredible season on the road with the USMTS. Stormy on the other hand is also having a great season but looking to top his brother in the finishing order, where he's been runner-up to him on numerous occasions this year.
Other significant movement on the rankings sees C.A. Nix advance to sixth in the order, his highest ranking to date. Nix recently competed in TOMS action at Salina Highbanks Speedway where he was sixth in the final rundown. Speaking of TOMS action, Tyler Wolff captured the TOMS win at the 'Highbanks and vaults back into the top 10 this week with a move from twelfth to ninth this week. TOMS results were good to drivers this week as TOMS Champ Triston Dycus also moves up the rankings this week to number 13 after finishing on the podium at the Highbanks. The final big move of the week belongs to 81 Speedway NCRA Modified winner Tanner Mullens, who the Midwest steam rolling last weekend.
New to the top 20 this week are a pair of drivers making reappearances on the rankings including 7-time USRA winner this year at I-35 Speedway Dennis Elliott at position 17 while Troy Taylor also reappears after a strong TOMS run at the Highbanks with a re-entry at number 19. Brad Waits and Jason Hughes slip outside the top 20 this week.
Drivers earning votes this week but falling shy of the top 20 include: Jason Hughes, Brad Waits, I-35 Speedway runner-up Mike Striegel, Lake Ozark winner Ryan Middaugh, Lakeside Champion Mark Schafman, Lake Ozark runner-up Ronnie Woods, Trevor Latham, Jason Cummings, Jake Timm, Lance Town, Chad Lyle, Southern Oklahoma Speedway winner Wesley Veal, Cade Dillard, Jake Gallardo, and Bo Day.
This weekend, continues the live coverage action with the annual Fall Jamboree from Deer Creek Speedway with three nights of competition beginning on Thursday, September 20th with the final event of the regular USMTS season and continuing Friday and Saturday with the Jamboree. The first two nights will pay the winner $5,000 with the winner of the finale going home with a cool $10,000! TOMS drivers will head to Kennedale Speedway in Texas while other action throughout our coverage wheelhouse includes events at I-35 Speedway, Southern New Mexico Speedway, and Lebanon Midway Speedway. TOMS drivers have a pair of events this weekend including a stop at 82 Speedway in Petty, Texas on Friday followed by a first-ever visit to Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma on Saturday. In addition, there are plenty of tracks still active this weekend among our USRA coverage wheelhouse including I-35 Speedway, Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Springfield Raceway, and Tri-State Speedway.
