The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
For a twelfth week overall and eighth week in 2018, Johnny Scott maintains his stronghold on the latest edition of USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. To say that 'J' Scott has put down an amazing season is indeed an understatement as he recently claimed his first-ever USMTS Championship and 15th overall victory of the season to continue his dominance of the series.
Filing in at number two this week again is Johnny's Brother Stormy Scott. 'S' Scott was again strong in the most recent string of USMTS activity where he strung together another three top-five finishes, which included yet another runner-up finish to Johnny.
Third this week is Minnesotan Lucas Schott, who is closing in on 'S' Scott as he most recently grabbed his sixth series victory this year in a dominating run at Fayette County Speedway in Iowa. Rounding out the top five this week are Rodney Sanders, fresh off another trio of top-five USMTS runs at number four and USRA point's leader Darron Fuqua, who most recently swept the Labor Day Specials at Central Missouri Speedway to push his win total to 22 on the season.
A small amount of movement takes place from sixth to tenth this week with Jake O'Neil and Terry Phillips holding strong at numbers six and seven while Dereck Ramirez and Zack VanderBeek each edge up one tick this week to the numbers eight and nine positions. Number 10 this week is C.A. Nix, a recent winner on the TOMS tour at Southern Oklahoma Speedway where he led flag-to-flag for the win.
Elsewhere on top 20 this week, we find Ryan Gustin blasting back into the rankings at number 15 after capturing the recently completed Modified Nationals at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, where he is no stranger to big-money victories in the Modifieds.
R.C. Whitwell returns to the rankings this week after a recent run of strong performances, which included a pair of top-ten finishes in USMTS action, plus a huge Thursday night victory at the Modified Nationals where he ultimately went on to finish third in the finale. Jason Hughes is also a returnee this week after recently capturing the Modified Classic special event at Tri-State Speedway over Labor Day weekend.
Drifting out of the top 20 this week are Cade Dillard, Chad Lyle, and Jake Gallardo. A total of 30 drivers earned votes from the voting staff this week, down from 34 from our last published top 20 two weeks ago. Those drivers falling just shy of top 20 this week include Cade Dillard, Chad Lyle, Jake Gallardo, Jake Timm, recent Chateau Speedway winner Jason Cummings, Tri-State Speedway recent winner Trevor Latham,  Dennis Elliott, Dustin Sorensen, recent TOMS winner Bo Day, and Terry Schultz.
Although USMTS drivers will enjoy some downtime prior to returning to action September 20th through 22nd for the annual Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway, there is still plenty of action left on the table for drivers to stay active including the $5,000-to-win Jayhawk Modified Classic this weekend at Lakeside Speedway. TOMS drivers have a pair of events this weekend including a stop at 82 Speedway in Petty, Texas on Friday followed by a first-ever visit to Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma on Saturday. In addition, there are plenty of tracks still active this weekend among our USRA coverage wheelhouse including I-35 Speedway, Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Springfield Raceway, and Tri-State Speedway.
