The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
Still flying high from his recent dominance of the 2017 USMTS season, Ryan Gustin stays atop this week's USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. It was an inactive week for most of the touring drivers but Gustin enjoys a fifth straight week leading the rankings over Jason Hughes, Zack VanderBeek, and Cade Dillard.
New to the top five this week is R.C. Whitwell, who rockets back to the top five for the first time since early August. Whitwell's move stems from his victory in the $3,000-to-win Sooner Showdown at Salina Highbanks Speedway where he crossed the finish line in front of Tyler Wolff, Chad Wheeler, Mitch Keeter, and Jo Duvall to earn the victory.
Stormy Scott, Jason Cummins, Rodney Sanders, Ryan Middaugh, and Lucas Schott round out this week's top 10. Of note, Middaugh took his 13th victory of the season over the weekend at Lakeside Speedway, which keeps him within the top five of the overall USRA standings.
Elsewhere on the quiet top 20 Triston Dycus re-enters this week's rankings crashing in at number 14 after he secured his sixth TOMS victory of the year at Superbowl Speedway ahead of a tough field of cars including Colby Smith, and Clyde Dunn, Jr.
Jake Gallardo was also a weekend winner as he crossed the line ahead of his Father, Fito, and Zane DevilBiss at Southern New Mexico Speedway for his sixth win of the year at the speedway this season. Our final new driver of the week is Brian Williams, who seems to be building a nice head of steam heading into the final weeks of the season. Williams secured his fourth win of the season and second at Tri-State Speedway over Tate Cole and Kyle Ledford.
Slipping out of this week's top 20 are Joe Duvall, Trevor Latham, and Chris Henigan. Additional drivers earning votes this week from our staff but falling shy of the top 20 include: Clyde Dunn Jr., Trevor Latham, Troy Taylor, Dustin Sorensen, Josh Angst, Dennis Elliott, Joe Duvall, Max Eddie Thomas, Derrick Hicks, C.A. Nix, Zane DeVilbiss, Colby Smith, Gunner Martin, Johnny Scott, Stanley Reed Jr., Charlie Smith, Wesley Veal, Jackie Dalton, and Royal Jones. All total, 39 drivers earned recognition this week, up from 35 last week.
There are still a handful of tracks racing through October and we will be sure to keep track of all the action through the rankings, our Gettin' the Dirt segments, and our exclusive Invert the Dirt segment, a weekend rewind and look at key results from around the nation of Modified and Late Model Racing.
If you missed any of last weekend's DIRTcar UMP Modified action live from Tri-City Speedway, head back to the main page and be sure to check out our vast library of on-demand video highlighting all three nights of the recently completed Modified Mania event. We also have hours' worth of material from recent events including the Fall Jamboree, MLRA and MARS late model action, plus a sampling of weekly racing events. We will return next week with an all-new edition of the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams, until then, race and travel safe wherever the road may take you.
