The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
Ryan Gustin led last week's number two driver by just two points to stay atop the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. This week, Gustin leads that same driver by just one point to stay number one for a third-consecutive week and fifth week overall in the history of our top 20!
Heading into the finale of the USMTS Hunt and Fall Jamboree all eyes are on Deer Creek Speedway and an interesting tale with a possible upset twist could be brewing. While there is no doubt the likes of Gustin, Hughes, VanderBeek, Stormy Scott, Cade Dillard, and Rodney Sanders are odds-on favorites for the big wins over the next few days, USRA stand-out Jason Cummins has a legitimate shot at taking over the number one ranking if he can score some wins and race among the top contenders at Deer Creek Speedway throughout the weekend.
Sitting just one point behind Gustin at number one, our voters already realize the strong season that Cummins has put together, which includes 20 USRA victories. If he can upset the apple cart with the USMTS contingent, he could become just the second "weekly" racer to lead the way onto he rankings after Lucas Schott led late in the year last season.
The entire top 10 remains locked into their same positions this week with Jason Hughes, Zack VanderBeek, and Stormy Scott occupying positions three, four, and five. Elsewhere on the rankings, Pea Ridge Arkansas' Johnny Bone, Jr., advances three spots to number 11 this week just missing the top 20 after posting yet another victory at Tri-State Speedway. Bone is easily the driver of the month for September, racking up multiple wins against solid fields of cars.
This week 39 drivers found their way on our voters' rosters, up from 34 the week before. Slipping out of the top 20 this week Dustin Sorenson, Jake Gallardo, Chris Hennigan, and Clyde Dunn, Jr. These drivers exiting the top 20 made room for four re-entries, including Lakeside winner Tyler Wolff blasting back onto the top 20 at number 14. TOMS winner Triston Dycus reappears at number 15 this week while Lakeside top-five runner Darron Fuqua re-enters at 18, one rung ahead of traveler Logan Robertson at number 19.
Drivers also earning votes this week but falling shy of the top 20 include: Ryan Gillmore, who claimed an "A" mod win in his first-ever Modified start at Springfield Raceway. Trevor Latham, Jackie Dalton, Jake Gallardo, Josh Angst, Phillip Houston, Robbie Reed, Nic Bidinger, Dustin Sorensen, Johnny Scott,  Scott Green, Joe Duvall, C A Nix, Chris Hennigan, Cory Crapser, Jacob Bleess, Jim Moody, Shane Sebraski, and Travis Saurer.
This weekend the road warriors are on the USMTS trail once again as they head to Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota for the finale to the 2017 Hunt and the annual Fall Jamboree. All three nights will be broadcast live on Be sure to visit the main page for pay-per-view ordering information. You won't want to miss a lap of the action as the best Modified drivers in the country flock to the 'Creek for this highly anticipated event.
Next week's rankings will take shape after all of the weekend activities at Deer Creek and throughout our coverage area. Who will come out on top? The rankings have never been closer to determine the number one driver of the year! Will it be Hughes, VanderBeek, Gustin, Stormy Scott, or Dillard, or will weekly racing USRA strong horse Jason Cummins upset the party and come away with the number one spot? Only one way to find out, point your browser right back here next Wednesday as we unveil and all-new top 20!
