The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
USMTS regular and idle driver this week Ryan Gustin leads this week's edition of the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams for a second straight week and fourth week overall. Gustin outdistances USMTS war horse Jason Cummins by just two points this week as Cummins returns to the runner-up spot in a bid to become just the second "weekly" racer to ever earned the number one rankings after Lucas Schott pulled off the rare feat late last year.
Although Cummins was winless on the weekend, he was still right in the thick of things with two top-five finishes during Mississippi Thunder Speedway (MTS) special events. Cummins was also ranked second in early August. Jason Hughes slips one rung to the number three spot this week just in front of USMTS regulars Zack VanderBeek and Stormy Scott at numbers four and five respectfully.
Filling out this week's top ten are Cade Dillard, Mississippi Thunder weekend winner Rodney Sanders, Lucas Schott at number eight, who found the top-five three times at MTS over the weekend. R.C. Whitwell had a solid outing at MTS to come in ninth, one spot ahead of Mitch Keeter who again scored a two-win weekend with victories at Humboldt and Salina Highbanks Speedway.
Jake Timm advances two spots to 11 this week after grabbing a win over the weekend at MTS while Johnny Bone, Jr., moves back into the top 15 this week after posting a third-consecutive Tri-State Speedway victory. Dustin Sorensen rides back into the top 20 this week at number 13 after turning in three top-ten's at MTS, including the big-money win on night number three. Jake Gallardo reappears courtesy of a victory at Southern New Mexico Speedway. The last new entry this week is actually another re-entry as weekend TOMS winner Chris Hennigan makes his way back into the top 20 this week at number 17.
Drivers slipping outside of the top 20 this week include Travis Sauer, Jim Moody, and Jackie Dalton. Drivers just missing the top 20 this week include Flint Creek winner Logan Robertson, Josh Angst, I-35 Speedway winner Zach Sanders, Lake Ozark Speedway winner Steve Picou, Jackie Dalton, TOMS runner-up finisher Triston Dycus, Johnny Scott, Cory Crapser, Travis Saurer, Tyler Wolff, C.A. Nix, Jim Moody, weekend MTS standout Adam Hensel, and Robbie Reed. A total of 34 drivers received votes this weekend, up from 31 last week.
We'll be back with an all-new rankings next week as USRA racing will keep plenty of drivers busy and our voters on their toes as the season is begins to wind down at some tracks while others are turning up the wick with late-season special events.
