The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
Ryan Gustin this week becomes the fifth different driver to lead the way on the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. Gustin's appearance at the top was nearly inevitable as he drove to three straight victories during the most recent stretch of USMTS Hunt activity.
Gustin's ride to the top includes not only the most USMTS victories of the season by any driver but along the way he also picked up big-money wins such as the recent Silver Dollar Nationals and earlier this year, the King of America. This is the first week Gustin has led the standings since a two-week run back in March of 2016.
Last week's number one ranked driver also had a winning weekend as Jason Hughes capped the weekend off with a Hunt victory at Cresco Speedway. Hughes looks to be on his way to another USMTS championship but we'll have to wait a couple weeks to see who rules the roost in 2017.
Jason Cummins racked up another USRA victory over the weekend and made the field against the USMTS drivers at Deer Creek where he finished 12th. Zack VanderBeek seems to be on solid roll once again as he led laps over the weekend and reeled off a string of top-ten finishes to move back into the top five this week at number four. Rounding out the top five this week is Stormy Scott, who drove to a USMTS win at Kossuth Iowa to begin the hunt last week. Scott was solid all weekend long and will try to pursue the Championship when racing resumes at Deer Creek with a slight chance at taking the title.
The rest of the top ten includes former number one Cade Dillard at number six. A rebounding Dereck Ramirez at number seven, Rodney Sanders in eighth, two-time USMTS top-five finisher Lucas Schott at number nine and Fairmont Raceway runner-up finisher R.C. Whitwell at number ten.
Keith Foss and Josh Angst fall out of this week's top 20, which allows Tri-State dominator Johnny Bone Jr., and TOMS winner Clyde Dunn, Jr., to move back inside the rankings after their successful weekend. There were 31 drivers who found their way onto our voters' sheets this week, down from 32 a week ago. Those drivers also receiving votes but landing outside the top 20 includes: C.A. Nix, Trevor Latham, Johnny Scott,  Josh Angst, Jake Gallardo, Keith Foss, Nic Bidinger, Tyler Wolff, Cory Crapser, Darron Fuqua, and Zane DeVilbiss.
USMTS drivers have a couple weeks to catch their breath after a whirlwind stretch of events. The Hunt championship continues at Deer Creek Speedway on Thursday, September 21st during the annual Fall Jamboree weekend. TOMS drivers are scheduled to head to Kennedale Speedway. Jason Cummins will look to add to his impressive 2017 USRA stats as the points-earning season starts to wind down on the weekly racing trail. We will have all the results and stats in our Invert the Dirt segment next Monday and on Wednesday an all-new rankings will be unveiled after weekend racing.
Our on-demand video library grew even more after last weekend's MLRA Late Model stretch and of course we have all the latest action from the recently wrapped five-race string of USMTS action. MARS Late Models and national tour Modified and Late Model action is also available in our back library of recent events.

Three wins last week and counting all the big-money and high profile events he's won this season, it's inevitable he would eventually return to the top of the rankings.
