The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
It seems like we're on an old turntable with a 78 RPM record playing, and skipping, and skipping, and skipping, with talk of weather again stealing the thunder in last week's action. Even still, a few weekly racing tracks and one USMTS event went off without a hitch as Cade Dillard rides the tide in the number one position for the third straight week and eighth overall on this week's edition of the USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams.
On Friday at I-96 Speedway in Minnesota, Dillard advanced from 14th on the grid to finish fourth, enough to keep him at number one again this week. Stormy Scott, also posted a top-five finish in fifth, which was enough for him to earn enough votes to hold at second this week.
Zack VanderBeek continued his recent run of strong performances as he finished in the runner-up position in USMTS action at I-94. Voters recognized his strong performance and he advanced one position this week to the top three.
Jason Hughes racked up his fourth USMTS victory of the season by coming away with the I-94 win, doing so from eighth on the starting grid. Voters moved Hughes back up the ranks and this week he lands at number four on the rankings. Rounding out the top five this week is Ryan Gustin, who still registers strong with voters despite a DNF in USMTS action.
Johnny Scott had a strong outing in weekend USMTS action and advances back up two spots to the number six position this week while Ricky Thornton, Jr., slips yet again in the standings as the former number one ranks seventh this week. R.C. Whitwell ran strong once again among the USMTS contingent and ranks eighth while Mitch Keeter, who finished second to Terry Phillips at Lucas Oil Speedway last Saturday, sits at number nine this week. Rounding out the top ten is Texan Chris Brown.
After limited events due to the ugly weather, there's little movement elsewhere on this week's rankings. Dustin Sorensen and Kevin Blackburn slip outside of the top 20 this week, replaced by a re-entering Terry Phillips hot off the Lucas Oil Speedway win at number 19. Bumper Jones makes a rare top 20 appearance, gaining the attention of our voters after he beat the Gallardo's and other front-runners at Southern New Mexico Speedway on Saturday, to earn a spot on the rankings this week at number 20.
There were 38 drivers on the voters' sheets this week, up one from last week's 37. Additional drivers not quite reaching the top 20 but earning voters were: Travis Saurer, Fito Gallardo, Charlie Smith, Jason Cummins, Jacob Bleess, Jake Timm, Stanley Reed Jr., Joe Duvall, Kevin Blackburn, Mike Dillard, Jack Sartain, Tyler Wolff, Dustin Sorensen, Terry Schultz, C.A. Nix, Trevor Latham, Darron Fuqua, and Kyle Prauner.
USMTS drivers head to the north country this weekend with events scheduled for stops at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, Deer Creek Speedway, and Upper Iowa Speedway while the TOMS competitors head to Southern Oklahoma Speedway for a pair of events. USRA and other drivers have a number of special events to go for the win at venues such as Central Missouri Speedway, Ogilvie Raceway, Lucas Oil Speedway, and Lonestar Speedway among those with posted special events.
The crew have a busy weekend ahead covering the events of the Silver Anniversary Show-Me 100 from Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
