The FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams® USMTS/USRA Power Rankings
By: Sam Stoecklin
Although Louisiana's Cade Dillard went sport mod racing this past weekend, his early season performances keep him at number one for a fourth-consecutive week and seventh week overall on this week's USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams. Like the rest of the USMTS contingent, Dillard will swing back to USMTS action in just a couple of weeks. Until then, several "weekly" racers made their moves or debut on this week's rankings, have a look at who made the grade this week!
With the USMTS drivers on hiatus until the tour resumes in a couple weeks, there is little movement in the upper echelon as Ryan Gustin holds down the number two ranking again this week. Lucas Schott returns to the top three this week as Ricky Thornton, Jr., and Jason Hughes round out the top five.
Zack VanderBeek, Stormy Scott, Johnny Scott, and Rodney Sanders sit in positions six through nine while Travis Saurer rockets up the rankings after recording a pair of NASCAR-sanctioned wins at Cedar Lake, this marks his highest placement on the rankings since the incredible run he put together earlier this season in USMTS action.
As more and more weekly race venues open their gates the Friday/Saturday night drivers will start making their presence known throughout the top 20 as many of those drivers are lurking just outside of the 20 ranked drivers on this week's rankings.
Falling out of the top 20 this week were Philip Houston, Josh Angst, Jesse Sobbing, and Fito Gallardo while Mitchell Clement makes his first-ever appearance inside the top 20 after recording a huge TOMS East Modified win over the weekend in Texas. Jackie Dalton found his way back to the podium with a win at Springfield Raceway and re-enters just ahead Clement at number 16. Darron Fuqua and Jeff Cutshaw were also victorious over the weekend at I-35 Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway respectively and also find their way back into the top 20.
All total, our voting staff recognized a whopping 42 drivers on their submissions this week, making this week one of the highest ever as far as different drivers earning votes. Drivers just outside the top 20 this week include the likes of Philip Houston, Bobby Ruffin, Josh Angst, Fito Gallardo, Chad Howell, Kerry Davis, Jack Sartain, Triston Dycus, Dennis Elliott, Kenny Gaddis, Charlie Smith, Bobby Pearish, RC Whitwell, Jesse Sobbing, Robbie Reed, David Winslett, Colby Smith, Zane DeVilbiss, Cory Crapser, Logan Robertson, and Wesley Veal.
The USMTS/USRA FAST® Power Rankings Presented by COMP Cams will return again next week with an all-new top 20. More and more tracks are opening and next week's rankings will weigh heavily on the outcome of those events.
