CANEY, Kan. (May 2 2012) – The Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., was reopened Aug. 2nd 2008, for the first weekly racing program at the 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval in Southern Kansas for the first time since April 2004.
Under the direction of promoter Kerry Gorby, the facility has experienced a complete top-to-bottom facelift during the last few years, including new restrooms, new concession buildings and new buildings in the pit area; a new air-conditioned press tower, a new and improved p.a. system and thousands of gallons of fresh paint are just a few of the improvements that fans and drivers have seen over the years, this season they will notice a wider racing surface with higher banking along with a new concrete wall.
For the 2011 racing season at Caney valley speedway drivers and fans were treated to some major improvements to the race track itself the speedway now boasts a sixty feet wide racing surface which made the racing action more exciting than ever. In 2012 improvements include expanded pit parking, new signage, victory lane, new backstretch fence and new pit grandstands… Along with the great racing fans will also be treated to a wonderful concession stand with delicious items such as BBQ beef sandwiches, nacho supreme, Simple Simons pizza, fresh grilled hamburgers and cheese burgers to name a few. So families can have dinner and enjoy a great night of family fun all close to home.
Headlining the weekly program this season will be the CVS DIRTcar super latemodels as they will be battling for track, regional and national points. Also on the racing card will be Factory Stocks, B-Mods, Pure Stocks and turf cars(micro sprints) The Ozark Vintage racers will be on hand displaying vintage race cars on the grandstand side this Saturday night, DIRTcar super Latemodels will pay $700 to win and $100 to start the A feature. B-Mods and Factory stocks will race for a $300 top prize and $25 to start,Pure Stocks will pay $200 to win and $25 to start and Turfcars will race for $200 to win and $25 to start....
Pit and grandstands gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps slated for 7:00 and racing action to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Adult ticket prices are just $8, seniors are $5, kids ages 6-12 are admitted free of charge with a paid adult making this an affordable family night out. Pit passes will be $30.
Over the past seasons we have been blessed with great support of local sponsors, one promotion we are very proud of is the kid’s bike drawing. Each week throughout the season we will give away a boy and girls bike to children six years and under thanks to our great sponsors. Children look forward to entering this contest and hope to hear their name called at intermission each week.
Some of our other fan promotions include kids bicycle races, our Mothers and Fathers day give away, the driver of the week where fans get an up close look at the race cars along with a chance to meet the driver. Keeping the fans involved is an important part of Caney Valley Speedway.
Gorby, a former racer like his father and first-time racetrack promoter, said he hopes to stage sixteen to eighteen events before season's end. Plans for the 2012 season include a full season of weekly racing, along with special events featuring OCRS Sprint Cars, UMP DIRTcar late models, Mud trucks,ASCS Sooner region sprint cars and more.
